How to Help Someone Who is Addicted to Drugs or Alcohol

One of the most frustrating things is to find a loved one addicted to drugs or alcohol and not know how to help them.

Very seldom is the addict reaching for help or even willing to admit they have a problem. So where do you start?

At first you may not even be sure they are using or know exactly what drugs are involved. This means learning the signs and symptoms of drug abuse and pinpointing what drug(s) they are using. By gaining certainty on what to expect both physically and emotionally, as well as the dangers they face, the better prepared you are to take action.

Next you will need to find the best way to approach the addict and get them the help they need. As most addicts are not very receptive when confronted about their drug use, it is not always easy to talk to them. It’s important to be as understanding as you can, show them that you care, and guide them into realizing that their drug use is ruining their life. It’s at this point that they will be more receptive to changing their situation and actually seeking help.

Detailed information on all aspects of helping an addicted friend or family member is covered in a comprehensive step-by-step guide which you can download below.

What’s important is that you don’t wait but take action now. What you do could save a loved ones life.
